A "Word of Mouth" Icon since 1958

On May 8th of 1979, my Dad, Jim, bought Palmer's Hardware. This store had a certain air about it that my father knew was the place for him. Within one lap of the main portion of the store, he decided that it had to be his.

Within a span of a few years, he had expanded into the next door space and brought the pipe inside, instead of mounted in an outside rack. What a great space to have, but not for long. Slowly, but surely, over a 40+ year period we have filled just about every nook and cranny available. We currently have to annex certain products, or hide them indefinitely, to make room for others.

We have had many wonderful employees over the years. We have had plumbers, electricians, machinists, and carpenters. All have left their own personal mark on the business. It is amazing how many talented people there are in St. Petersburg.

We pride ourselves in helping the general public repair their own home problems. My Dad is one of the most intelligent and talented people I know. When he first bought the store, he was a little apprehensive about how to make a go of it. He figured it out real quick! And thank goodness he did because St. Petersburg, Florida would have a hard time without this hardware institution.
