At least five times a day, we are asked about a toilet leaking......the number one cause that we have found is as follows.
If you have a small rubber tube going into the top of your overflow stand pipe, it is a must that you have that tube affixed above the water level line in your tank. If it is below your water level line in the tank surrounding your overflow stand pipe, your toilet will run until it siphons enough water to reach that level. In our experience, changing flappers does nothing for the situation. Pull that rubber tube up above the water level line and you'll be a pro!
